Delos is a small Greek island near Mykonos, but its importance far outweighs its size. Ancient Greeks treated it as the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, and UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List in 1990. In the 2011 census, the island had only 24 residents, and modern Greece imposes strict protection measures that prohibit construction activity.
