According to a 2007 case report, a 23-year-old man swallowed what he later estimated were 100 dose units of methamphetamine, at least 1 gram each, after a car crash because he feared police would arrest him for drug possession. He then fled on foot, fought with officers, and arrived at the hospital severely agitated, where doctors recorded a core body temperature of 45°C, or 113°F, after intubation. This was the highest reported core temperature in a case with laboratory confirmation of psychostimulant drug exposure. Despite the overdose, hyperthermia, and rhabdomyolysis, he survived and was discharged from the hospital five days later.
