Franklin Warned About Lead

In 1786, American inventor and statesman Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter warning a friend about the hazards of lead and lead paint. His warning came at a time when white lead paint was still widely used, even though the dangers were already known to some people. The United States did not ban lead in household paint until 1978, almost 200 years later.
