When scientists studied the fossil later named Irritator, they realized the skull had been tampered with before it reached them. Fossil dealers had added plaster and altered parts of the specimen, apparently to make it look better and raise its sale value. That left paleontologists stuck trying to separate the real anatomy from the fake additions. Their frustration was so strong that they turned it into the dinosaur’s name: Irritator.
