The Sopranos portrayed mafia life so convincingly that some real mobsters reportedly started wondering if the show had an inside source. They worried the writers must be spying on them or pulling details from someone in their world. Someone actually was, though, as the FBI overheard those suspicions while monitoring organized crime figures through surveillance.
