Bern And Basel Swimming Commute

The rivers in the Swiss cities of Bern and Basel are clean enough that some locals actually commute by swimming. In summer, people jump into the Aare River in Bern or the Rhine in Basel, letting the current carry them downstream toward home or work. Many swimmers place their clothes and belongings in waterproof dry bags so they stay dry while floating along the river.
