Saudi Arabia’s Hormuz Bypass Pipeline

In 1981, Saudi Arabia built the 1,200-kilometer East–West Crude Oil Pipeline, which runs from the Persian Gulf to ports on the Red Sea. The pipeline was designed to allow Saudi oil exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow shipping route that could be blocked during regional conflicts.
