Marilyn Monroe Dress Met Gala Damage

Actress Marilyn Monroe wore a crystal-covered dress while singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962. In 2022, Kim Kardashian wore the same gown to the Met Gala after losing 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into it. Soon after the event, photos circulated showing missing crystals, tears near the zipper, and other wear on the fragile 60-year-old garment. Critics and historians argued that the historic dress had suffered irreversible damage after being worn again.
