William MacDonald Declared Dead

Australian serial killer William MacDonald, later nicknamed the “Mutilator,” murdered several men across Australia in the 1960s. After killing a victim in Sydney in 1961, MacDonald hid the body beneath the floor of the shop where he worked and fled to another city. When police later discovered the badly decomposed corpse, they mistakenly believed it belonged to MacDonald himself. Authorities briefly declared the serial killer dead, allowing him to continue living freely until investigators later connected him to the murders and arrested him later.
