Nikko Jenkins Sued Nebraska State

In February 2014, Omaha spree killer Nikko Jenkins filed a federal lawsuit seeking $24.5 million from the State of Nebraska, claiming officials were responsible for the killings he later committed. Jenkins had been released from prison in July 2013 after serving 10.5 years of an 18-year sentence, despite warnings about his violent behavior and mental health problems. In his handwritten filing, he argued that prison officials ignored his claims that he heard commands from the ancient serpent god Apophis and should have committed him to a mental institution instead of releasing him. Just weeks after gaining freedom, Jenkins carried out a 10-day killing spree in Omaha in August 2013, murdering four people.
