Richard Ramirez Prison Bride Leaves

In 1996, Doreen Lioy, a magazine editor and longtime admirer of Richard Ramirez, married him while he was imprisoned at San Quentin State Prison in California. Ramirez had already been convicted of murdering 13 adults during the 1984–1985 crime spree. Lioy publicly defended him for years and insisted that he was innocent of the crimes. In 2009, however, DNA evidence confirmed that Ramirez had also murdered a 9-year-old girl, expanding the known scope of his crimes. After learning this, Lioy ended the relationship and cut off contact with him.
