Before becoming one of America’s most infamous serial killer figures, Charles Manson briefly explored the teachings of Scientology. During the 1960s, Manson completed about 150 hours of auditing, the counseling process used within the Church of Scientology. At the time, he was searching for personal direction after repeated prison terms and periods of instability. However, Manson soon rejected the organization’s teachings and reportedly dismissed Scientology as “too crazy.” Not long afterward, he formed the Manson Family cult, which later carried out the notorious 1969 murders in California.
