Brooks eventually ended the relationship because she viewed Bundy as immature and lacking clear ambition. Determined to change her opinion, Bundy later reinvented himself with a more polished appearance and renewed confidence. He reconnected with Brooks and briefly revived the relationship before abruptly cutting off all contact without explanation. Bundy later admitted that he only pursued the reunion to prove to himself that he could have married her.
