Serial killer Edmund Kemper befriended the very police officers investigating his murders and regularly socialized with them at a Santa Cruz bar called the Jury Room. During the early 1970s, Kemper had already murdered several young women in California while presenting himself as a friendly regular at the bar. The officers who drank with him nicknamed him Big Ed and never suspected he was responsible for the killings they were trying to solve. In 1973, Kemper finally called police and confessed to the murders after killing his mother and her friend. When he first admitted the crimes, the officers initially believed he was joking.
