In 1965, Julie Andrews won the Best Actress Oscar for playing the title role in "Mary Poppins." During her acceptance, she thanked producer Jack Warner, who had refused to cast her in the film version of "My Fair Lady" even though she had starred as Eliza Doolittle on Broadway. Because Warner passed her over, Andrews remained available to take the role of Mary Poppins, which became her breakthrough film performance and earned her the Academy Award.
