Are We Inside Cosmic Void

Astronomers suggest that Earth and the Milky Way may sit inside a vast, under-dense cosmic void about 1 billion light-years wide. In this region, there is less matter than average, so galaxies and gas spread out more thinly through space. That unusual environment can change how light and galaxies move around us. As a result, the void may skew local measurements of the universe's expansion rate and help explain why some observations do not agree.
