Caterpillar Worker Falls Into Molten

In 2022, Caterpillar Inc. faced a $145,027 fine after a worker who was removing a sample of iron fell into an 11-foot melting pot heated to more than 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The incident killed the employee as he dropped into the vat of molten metal. Investigators later found that the facility lacked the legally required guardrails and restraint systems around the pot.
