In 1968, Australian sprinter Peter Norman stood on the Olympic 200-meter podium in Mexico City alongside Tommie Smith and John Carlos as they gave their Black Power salutes. Decades later, Norman died in 2006 after a heart attack. At his funeral in Melbourne, Smith and Carlos served as pallbearers and carried his coffin. They also gave eulogies, honoring the white teammate who had supported their protest on the world stage.
