Essie Dunbar Sits Up Alive

In 1915 in South Carolina, 30-year-old Essie Dunbar suffered an epileptic attack, and doctors declared her dead, scheduling her funeral for the next day so her out-of-town sister could attend. The sister arrived late, saw the grave already covered, and demanded that the coffin be dug up so she could see Essie one last time. When they opened the lid, Essie sat up and smiled at the stunned mourners. She survived the premature burial and lived for another 47 years.
