As a child, a girl named Helena Valero was kidnapped by the Yanomami, an Indigenous group living in the Amazon rainforest, and she stayed with them for more than 20 years. In 1956, she managed to return to Brazilian society, but subsequently made the decision to rejoin the Yanomami and live with them once more. She remained there until her death in 2002.
