Vice President Sworn In Cuba

In 1853, U.S. Vice President William R. King was so ill that he took his oath of office in Cuba instead of traveling to Washington, becoming the only U.S. president or vice president ever sworn in on foreign soil. He never recovered enough to serve in the capital and died less than a month later, ending his term before he could carry out his duties in Washington.
