In Cormac McCarthy's novel No Country for Old Men, set in 1980, Sheriff Bell mentions dope dealers who shot and killed a federal judge in San Antonio. The film adaptation casts Woody Harrelson in a key role, and in real life his father, Charles Harrelson, was the contract killer convicted of murdering U.S. District Judge John H. Wood Jr. in 1979.
