Just months after leaving office in 1877, former U.S. president Ulysses S. Grant set off on a world tour that lasted over two and a half years. He and his wife traveled through Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and across the Pacific, visiting numerous countries along the way. By completing this journey, Grant became the first U.S. president to circumnavigate the globe.
