Clint Eastwood's Ice Cream Mayoralty

In the 1980s, Clint Eastwood became mayor of a tiny town, Carmel-by-the-Sea, in California, running largely because he wanted to lift a local ban on public ice cream sales. While still working on movie sets, he flew home for weekly council meetings and wrote a column in the town paper to stay plugged into local issues. A nearby hotel even changed its slogan to "make my stay" in a playful nod to his screen persona.
