In the mid-2000s, four teenage girls with vaginal aplasia received custom vagina implants that scientists grew in a lab from their own vulvar tissue biopsies and pelvic scans. Surgeons later connected two of the engineered vaginas to the uterus for potential reproduction, while follow-up showed that all four women reported normal arousal, lubrication, intercourse, and orgasm.
