On May 4, 2001, Bonny Lee Bakley, second wife of actor Robert Blake and a longtime scam artist who had married nine men before him, left a Los Angeles restaurant with Blake and walked to his parked car. Blake later said he returned to the restaurant to retrieve a gun he had left behind and came back to find Bakley shot in the head while sitting in their vehicle.
Police eventually charged Blake and his former bodyguard with her murder, alleging he had arranged the killing, but a jury acquitted him of all criminal charges in 2005. No one has ever been convicted of Bakley's murder, and the case remains officially unsolved despite a later civil jury finding Blake liable for her wrongful death.
