In August 1966, 19-year-old Kenneth McDuff and accomplice Roy Dale Green abducted Robert Brand, his cousin Mark Dunn, and Brand's girlfriend Edna Louise Sullivan near Everman, Texas, and McDuff shot and killed all three during a robbery and sexual assault. A court sentenced McDuff to death in 1968, but after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down existing death penalty statutes in the early 1970s, officials commuted his sentence to life in prison, and he won parole in 1989.
Once free, he drifted around central Texas, picked up women at convenience stores and roadside spots, and murdered at least four more victims, including Colleen Reed, Valencia Joshua, and Melissa Ann Northrup. Authorities finally tracked him down in 1992 after a federal manhunt, and Texas courts sent him back to death row, where the state executed him by lethal injection in 1998.
