In 2023, a long-lost X-Wing starfighter model resurfaced and went up for auction, which was used in the climactic space battle of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). The miniature, one of only four known "hero" models built for detailed close-up shots, had been considered missing for decades. It sold for $3.1 million, setting a new record as the most expensive screen-used Star Wars prop ever auctioned.
