John Hughes filmed The Breakfast Club (1985) and Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) at the same time to save both time and money. He used a closed high school for the interior scenes of both movies, turning different parts of the building into separate film worlds. For The Breakfast Club (1985), he even built a larger library set inside the gym because the school's real library was too small, creating the iconic detention room from scratch.
