In the classic holiday special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), Yukon Cornelius keeps licking his ax throughout the story, which has long puzzled viewers. The original script explained that he was testing the metal for traces of peppermint since he was actually prospecting for peppermint, not gold or silver. That clarifying scene was deleted from the final cut, so his repeated ax licking survives with no on-screen explanation.
