In April 2025, the owner of Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille in Prospect, Kentucky, opened valves and intentionally flooded his own restaurant with clean water ahead of an expected rise in the Ohio River. He filled the lower level to equalize pressure on the walls and doors, hoping the inside water would counteract the force of the river outside. After the river levels dropped, he planned to pump out the water and begin cleanup, believing this controlled flooding would save the building from structural damage.
