Sony Pictures Buys Alamo Drafthouse

After the 1948 Paramount Decree forced Hollywood studios to divest their theater chains, no major studio owned cinemas for decades. That changed in 2024, when Sony Pictures became the first studio to get back into the exhibition business by acquiring the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain. The move came after the decree was effectively lifted in 2020, clearing the way for vertical integration to return to Hollywood.
