Trader Horn Africa Shoot Tragedies

In 1931, Trader Horn became Hollywood's first non-documentary feature filmed on location in Africa and earned a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. During the shoot, a crocodile killed and ate one crew member, and a rhinoceros stampede badly injured another. Lead actress Edwina Booth contracted a severe illness on location that ended her film career. The film's pioneering status as Hollywood's first African adventure came at the cost of a production marked by real danger and lasting tragedy.
