In 1916, "A Daughter of the Gods" became the first American film to have a $1 million budget and also the first mainstream movie to feature full female nudity. The production built its marketing around this unprecedented scale and bold content, and audiences responded by turning it into a commercial success. In spite of this, no known copies survive today, and the movie is now classified as lost, leaving its historic firsts preserved only in production records and contemporary accounts.
