Memento First 2000s Film Preserved

In 2000, Christopher Nolan’s film Memento presented what many medical experts have cited as one of the most realistic and accurate depictions of anterograde amnesia in cinema. Its fractured narrative, told in reverse order, mirrored the protagonist’s inability to form new memories and helped audiences grasp the disorder’s everyday impact. In 2017, the U.S. Library of Congress selected Memento for preservation in the National Film Registry as a film of cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance. It became the first narrative feature film from the 2000s to receive that honor.
