The family comedy then held the number one spot for a full 12 weeks, an unusually long run that turned it into one of Hollywood’s biggest surprise hits. It went on to become the highest-grossing live-action comedy ever at the domestic box office, earning a place in the Guinness World Records. Home Alone held that Guinness title for 27 years.
