Greenpeace Calendar Prints Mafart Photo

For its 2015 calendar, Greenpeace USA unknowingly selected a wildlife photograph taken by Frenchman Alain Mafart, a former secret agent involved in the 1985 bombing of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior in Auckland. When staff later learned that the image’s creator had been one of the operatives responsible for the attack that killed photographer Fernando Pereira, they realized the grim connection. Greenpeace USA then decided to destroy the remaining copies of the calendar.
