Operation Dark Heart Pentagon Suppression

In 2010, retired Army Reserve intelligence officer Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer published a memoir about his Afghanistan service titled Operation Dark Heart. After the Pentagon reviewed the manuscript and claimed that about 250 pages contained classified information, the Department of Defense paid roughly 47,000 dollars to buy all 9,500 copies of the first printing from the publisher and ordered them destroyed. The books were pulped under Pentagon supervision so the uncensored text would not reach the public.
