Black Hawk Down John Stebbins

Black Hawk Down John Stebbins

In the 2001 film Black Hawk Down, actor Ewan McGregor plays an Army Ranger who appears under the fictional name John Grimes because the real soldier, John Stebbins, was convicted of child molestation in a 1999 court martial. Stebbins had served as a company clerk in an elite Army Ranger unit and earned the Silver Star for his actions during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. When producers adapted Mark Bowden's book for the screen, the Pentagon agreed to allow the use of actual Army Black Hawk helicopters only after the filmmakers changed Stebbins to the fictional John Grimes.
