Carl Bradley Breaks In Two

In November 1958, the Great Lakes freighter Carl D. Bradley broke up and sank in a storm on Lake Michigan, and 33 of the 35 men on board died. The two surviving crewmen insisted that the ship had snapped in two, but the U.S. Coast Guard investigation concluded that the vessel had sunk intact, a finding that reduced the liability of its owners. In 1997, divers located the wreck on the lakebed and found the hull in two large sections lying about 90 feet apart.
