Lewis Millett Last Bayonet Charge

Lewis Millett Last Bayonet Charge

In 1941, Lewis Lee Millett deserted the U.S. Army because he believed the United States would not enter World War II and crossed into Canada to enlist in the Canadian Army to fight in World War II. After the United States entered the war, he transferred back to the U.S. Army and fought in Europe. During the Korean War, he commanded a company in a hill assault and personally led what is considered the last major bayonet charge in American history. For that action, in which his men stormed entrenched positions at close quarters, Millett received the Medal of Honor.
