Topgun Boosts Navy Kill Ratio

After analyzing aircraft losses over North Vietnam in 1968, the U.S. Air Force invested in upgrades for its F-4 jets, while the U.S. Navy created an advanced combat school for its pilots called TOPGUN. Both services introduced these changes in an effort to improve their performance in air combat. In the years that followed, the Navy saw its kill ratio climb to 13:1, while the Air Force saw no improvements.
