Bruce Springsteen And Vietnam Draft

Bruce Springsteen And Vietnam Draft

During the Vietnam War, some Americans took extreme steps to avoid the draft: at 19, Bruce Springsteen behaved "crazily" during his induction and left tests blank, Harold Ramis took meth before his physical, and Gregg Allman studied a foot chart, got drunk, drew a target on his moccasin, and shot his own foot with a revolver. While an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 Americans dodged the draft by going to Canada, about 30,000 Canadians volunteered to fight for the United States in Vietnam, and one of them received the Congressional Medal of Honor. Anyway, almost immediately after President Jimmy Carter took office, he issued a pardon for Vietnam draft dodgers, wiping away many of the legal consequences of their choices.
