American POW During the Vietnam War Doug Hegdahl played the part of a quiet, foolish captive, and his Vietnamese guards nicknamed him "The Incredibly Stupid One." While imprisoned, he secretly memorized the names, dates of capture, methods of capture, and personal details of 256 fellow prisoners of war, setting the list to the tune of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." When he returned to the United States, he provided the names of more than 200 POWs from memory. He is still alive (as of November 2025) and can still recite that entire roster to the same tune to this day.
