During a mission in the Vietnam War, U.S. Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock crawled over 1,500 yards inch by inch for four days and three nights to reach a position where he could shoot a PAVN general, then killed him with a single shot and crawled back undetected. On another mission, Hathcock hunted his rival, a North Vietnamese sniper known as The Cobra, by watching for the glint of sunlight on the enemy’s scope. He fired one round at that reflection, killing him instantly. When Hathcock examined the body, he saw that his bullet had passed straight through the sniper’s scope without touching the sides.
