Major Buang Lands On Midway

During the Fall of Saigon in April 1975, South Vietnamese pilot Major Buang-Ly loaded his family of five into a small Cessna and flew out over the sea looking for the USS Midway. When he found the carrier, he dropped a paper note onto the flight deck asking for space to land. Captain Larry Chambers ordered several helicopters pushed overboard to clear the deck, risking equipment losses to save the family. With the deck finally open, Major Buang brought the Cessna in and landed safely on the Midway.
