Weekly Moviegoing Collapses After 1960s

In 1930, more than 65 percent of the U.S. population went to the movies every week, meaning that out of every five people someone knew, three of them were regular weekly moviegoers. Over the following decades, that habit steadily faded. Since around 1964, the share of Americans who go to the movies every week has consistently stayed under 10 percent.
