By 400 BC in Greece, writers and Aristotle recorded bedbugs as household pests. In Eastern Europe, people scattered kidney bean leaves around beds at night, and the leaf’s microscopic hairs, called trichomes, impaled the bugs’ feet as they tried to cross. In the morning, they burned the leaf traps and the immobilized insects with them.
