Spartan Politics by Shouting Elections

In ancient Sparta, public officials were chosen through “shouting elections.” Candidates walked into the assembly one at a time, and judges in a separate room listened without seeing who entered. The winner was simply the one who received the loudest cheers, turning political selection into a contest of crowd enthusiasm rather than vote counting.
