Theban Sacred Band of Lovers

In the 4th century BC in Thebes, Greece, the Sacred Band formed an elite corps of 300 hoplites made up of 150 pairs of male lovers. Their close bond made them fight harder, knowing that if they lost, their partner would likely die too.
